Evona Team Members: Haris Balavac

Good ghost of Evona – that is how one can perceive Haris. Even though he is not very often on the sight in the office, his presence is still strongly felt, and a very important link in the chain of daily obligations and tasks. Haris is our only colleague who works full remote so we asked him this one question:

What the average day in remote work mode looks like?

7:50 is a time to wake up, and the working day can begin. While the computer is turning on, one has time to refresh, do a few stretches, make a coffee, and at 8 AM clock sit at the computer.

The first task is to scroll through Slack and check if there is any notification urgent to deal with. The next thing is to do the screening of the possible production issues and report the problem if needed. When all the tasks are prioritized and the daily working plan is made, it is time for some online gathering.

It is almost 9 o`clock, and fellow QA colleagues, backend developers, database, and system admin are in the conference room waiting for Haris to join the huddle on Slack. When everyone is here daily standup meeting can begin. This is a very important practice, where a team can come together and reflect on what has been done yesterday, and what needs to be done that day. They can resolve existing issues and of course, there has to be a little bit of banter – just to keep up a team spirit lit.
The next step is deep work, finding bugs, testing, and creating tests.

Around 11 o`clock is time for a rest. Sometimes it is just half an hour of TV watching, sometimes it is a coffee at a local coffee shop or a breakfast with a friend who also works remotely. Whatever option he chooses for the day it is important to step back from work and chill, so he could come back at the tasks fresh and rejuvenated.

Then again the same routine – deep work, finding bugs, testing, and creating tests until somewhere around 4:30 PM – with a few stretches in between of course.
And all on repeat the next morning.

And what happens in the rest of the day?

Haris says it is mostly basketball, gym, or game-playing with friends – some laid-back activity to chill and relax.

All in all, we hope that this successful collaboration will keep up its pace and bring some more productive challenges and achievements.
